Pets and animals
When an animal gets out, know where it was last seen.
Dogs dig under the fence, cats wander, and horses and cattle find the one gap in the boundary. An AirTag on a collar or halter gives you a last known location and a trail to follow, so the search starts on the right street or the right camp instead of everywhere at once.
What to tag
- Dogs
- Cats
- Horses and ponies
- Cattle, sheep and goats
- Animals on a smallholding
- Working and guard dogs
How NovaTrack helps
Built around how pets and animals works.
Last known location on a map
See where Apple’s network last heard each animal’s tag, with an accuracy circle and a timestamp.
Out-of-bounds alerts
Draw a zone around the house, paddock or smallholding and get an email when a tag leaves it.
Share the search
Send family or a neighbour an expiring live link that shows the animal’s tag and nothing else.
History and battery status
Scroll back through where an animal has been, and see which tags need a new coin cell before they go flat.

Mounting tips
Where to put the tag.
- Dogs and cats
- In a snug collar holder that sits flat, on a breakaway collar for cats. Check it cannot be chewed off or swallowed.
- Horses
- On the halter or a leather tag holder on the headcollar, not on the bridle you only use for riding.
- Livestock
- Tag the animals that lead or wander, such as the lead cow or a horse that jumps fences, rather than every head.
Good to know
This is not a real-time GPS collar. Positions update when someone’s iPhone passes nearby: often in suburbs, rarely on remote farmland. Apple may alert a stranger to an AirTag travelling with them, and a tag away from its owner may beep. An AirTag does not replace a microchip, an ID tag or a secure fence.

Difference
The honest answers.
Is it real-time?
No, and we will not pretend it is. A tag’s position updates when an Apple device passes close enough to hear it: every few minutes in busy areas, hours apart in quiet ones. NovaTrack fetches new reports every 15 minutes.
What happens when a thief has an iPhone?
Apple’s anti-stalking features can warn an iPhone user that an unknown AirTag is travelling with them, and a tag away from its owner for a while may beep. Hide tags well, use more than one on valuable items, and treat tracking as a recovery aid.
Does it work in remote areas?
Only where Apple devices pass. On a farm, a remote site or underground, updates can be very slow or stop. Tags are strongest where people are: towns, roads, sites and depots.
What about metal?
Solid metal all round blocks Bluetooth. Mount tags behind plastic, near a gap or a vent, or on the outside in a rugged holder.
How long does the battery last?
About a year on a standard CR2032 coin cell. NovaTrack shows battery status so you know which tags to service.
