Field teams and technicians
See where the job kit is, with privacy built in.
When a tag travels with a technician you need to know where the job is, not where they spend the weekend. NovaTrack’s privacy modes only keep locations during working hours or while a job is open, which keeps you on the right side of POPIA.
What to tag
- Technician tool bags
- Service vehicles
- Spares and parts kits
- Loan and demo units
- Meters and diagnostic kit
- Keys and access cards
How NovaTrack helps
Built around how field teams and technicians works.
Working-hours and on-job modes
Locations outside the allowed window are thrown away before they are stored.
Live “on the way” links
Send a customer an expiring link that shows the technician’s tag and nothing else.
Jobs from your system
Open and close jobs through the REST API, so tracking follows your ticketing tool.
Arrived and left events
A job site becomes a temporary zone, so you know when the kit got there and when it left.

Mounting tips
Where to put the tag.
- Tool bags
- Inside a zipped pocket or sewn into the lining.
- Vehicles
- In the glovebox or behind a trim panel, so it stays with the vehicle, not the person.
- Tell your team
- Explain the tags and the privacy mode in writing. Apple may alert staff to a tag travelling with them.
Good to know
Tracking equipment that travels with people needs notice and a lawful reason under POPIA. The privacy modes help, but your policies and contracts still need to cover it.

Difference
The honest answers.
Is it real-time?
No, and we will not pretend it is. A tag’s position updates when an Apple device passes close enough to hear it: every few minutes in busy areas, hours apart in quiet ones. NovaTrack fetches new reports every 15 minutes.
What happens when a thief has an iPhone?
Apple’s anti-stalking features can warn an iPhone user that an unknown AirTag is travelling with them, and a tag away from its owner for a while may beep. Hide tags well, use more than one on valuable items, and treat tracking as a recovery aid.
Does it work in remote areas?
Only where Apple devices pass. On a farm, a remote site or underground, updates can be very slow or stop. Tags are strongest where people are: towns, roads, sites and depots.
What about metal?
Solid metal all round blocks Bluetooth. Mount tags behind plastic, near a gap or a vent, or on the outside in a rugged holder.
How long does the battery last?
About a year on a standard CR2032 coin cell. NovaTrack shows battery status so you know which tags to service.
